Editor Review – Keurig B60 Special Edition
We rated the Keurig B60 Special Edition Our #1 single cup coffee maker of 2012. The Keurig B60 is so easy to use it barely needs instructions. Fill the removable water reservoir (it holds 48 oz.), open the lid and place your preferred K-cup, close lid and select your brewing size (5.25 oz, 7.25 oz and 9.25 oz). In about 30 seconds, you’ll have your gourmet coffee perfectly brewed every time. The K-cup are little pods of coffee premeasured for the Keurig machines and with over 150 different kinds of coffee pods, you’ll never grow tired of trying new and refreshing types of coffee. Once your coffee is done, it’s time to clean up. Open the lid and remove the used K-cup, throw it away. The clean up is complete! It couldn’t be easier.
It’s simple, this gourmet coffee maker makes coffee comparable to expensive coffee shops and in some cases, even better. Don’t even think for a minute that you’ll still need a larger coffee maker for when company comes over, your family and friends will be picking their own type of coffee pod to try. Everybody likes a variety and have different tastes, you’ve got that covered with the Keurig B60. It also makes latte, hot cocoa and tea. We’ve even got emails of people using it to make hot water for oatmeal and ramen noodle soup!
It’s easy to see that the Keurig B60 Special Edition had a great impression on us. Give the Keurig B60 a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Finally, I found the easy – no clean up – fast coffee maker that I need for my busy lifestyle. The k-pods are awesome – I use it for coffee and tea, it’s so easy. Just put in the k-pod – push a button and you have your beverage. Great taste – no fuss – no mess or a chance of an exploding pod – a great size water reserve and a cool look. I’ve bought so many coffee makers over the years and I finally found a keeper.
One thing – you can’t make a pot – but this machine is ready for the next cup in 30 seconds (fast) and my guest love choosing their favorite flavor, (there are so many to choose from) so I haven’t missed the pot at all.
If you’re reading this review, you’re most likely doing research and trying to decide between the Keurig line (B40,B50,B60), the Tassimo, or the Senseo. Out of those three, the Keurig is the best looking, the most durable, has the best heating and pumping mechanism, and has the largest variety of coffees and teas available. The Tassimo’s versatility is tempting, but variety of coffees is lacking, the machine is a first-run model that does not feel as quality as the Keurig (I could barely find a piece of metal in the entire thing), and it cannot be set to warm itself up like the Keurig. The Senseo isn’t bad and I may even consider getting it as a second machine, but it is kind of lame how you need two pods to brew an 8 oz cup of coffee. Considering the price of pods that I was looking at, it would outprice both the Keurig and the Tassimo for daily usage.
Between the Keurig models (B40,B50,B60), I spent a lot of time trying to decide and eventually went with the B60, mainly because the B60 is the only model that brews 3 different sizes of coffee–5.25, 7.25, and 9.25oz. The B50, a favorite amongst shoppers, does not offer the 9.25oz size. This large size allows my Oxo travel mug to almost completely fill after using one Extra Bold K-cup. As an added benefit of the B60, you get beautiful blue LEDs behind the display and the water tank, as well as a polished chrome handle and polished chrome outer-ring to the display. It looks very modern and very classy in my otherwise boring kitchen. Highly recommended.
I wrote a review under the B50 earlier because there was no listing for the B60. Everything below is still accurate. We went out of town for a few days and really missed our coffee maker! We will order the new refillable accessory when it comes out in January, just to have on hand in case we run out of K-Cups one day.
Wonderful way to wake up in the morning!
I couldn’t wait until Christmas so my husband got his Keurig for an early Thanksgiving present. It turns out, that this is a great gift for me, too!
I’ve never been a coffee drinker, but I’ve been making him coffee for 27 years. He’s never complained even though I’m sure his coffee has ranged from too weak, too strong and just plain bitter. When he told me about a friend with a single serve coffee maker that makes every cup fresh and good, I did the research and ordered the Keurig. Since he likes his travel cups, I ordered the Extra Bold Sumatran and Magic K-Cups.
When I gave him the Keurig he was so impressed that he didn’t even complain about the price. I was all set to tell him that I made 8 cups of his old drip coffee each day and poured out about half, so this would actually save money. My logic didn’t pan out anyway. He is drinking even more coffee now because it is so good!
To fill his travel cup he runs one Extra Bold through twice on the 5 ounce setting and says that it is perfect. Since it is ready all the time, I no longer get up a few minutes early to have his coffee ready for him and he can even enjoy a cup after dinner. The best part is that I’ve tried the flavored Southern Pecan and French Vanilla coffees and I love them! I thought I would only use it for tea.
Keurig has made us both very happy.
I bought my boss the Home Cafe for Christmas to use at work. She loves it, so I tried a cup. I wasn’t impressed with the flavor or trying to use the machine. But, I did like the convenience, so I was going to by one for myself. I came here, saw the reviews(which were less than stellar)so I moved on. I found The Keurig B60 and read the reviews on it. 199.00 seemed a little steep for a coffee pot, but I had gotten a 100.00 gift certificate for a store that carried them. I figured I may regret it because coffee is coffee and my Cuisinart makes some very good coffee. I was tired of throwing out unused coffee so I went for it. I tried to rationalize the expense of the coffe K cups by recognizing that I would not be throwing coffee out. So, home it comes. I had it set up, primed and ready to brew in 5 minutes. I brewed Columbian for me, Sumantra for my husband and tea for my daughter. We all loved it!! The convenience alone is worth the money, but, when it was time to go to bed and make my traditional, programed coffee for the morning. The filter cleaning, the pot washing, the measuring, the water filling, and the wiping of the coffee grinds and the water drops that had escaped me during the process onto the kitchen counter, I realized that I didn’t have to do it. That and the individual choice of what coffee to drink, as well as the great coffee it makes just thrilled me. I told my husband that I must be getting old for a coffee pot to excite me that much, but I’m telling you it’s worth every penny even without the gift card. If you are on the fence, I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed if you go for it, and I don’t believe you’ll ever own another coffee pot.
I purchased this machine from Williams-Sonoma and it did come with the “My K-Cup” personal ground coffee filter. I experimented in every way possible as soon as I took it out of the package. The pods work great, but I was skeptical at first about the more “economical” alternative—using the “my k-cup” filter with regular ground coffee. Well, I tried it…and it was excellent. The manual suggests using 2 tbs. of ground coffe in the filter (which IS marked at 1 tbs. and at 2 tbs.) and holds up to 2.7 tbs. to give you room to play if you like stronger coffee. I filled the filter all the way to the top and brewed 2 medium sized cups in a row….both were perfect.
The machine also does hot water, of course, for tea and hot chocolate….but I tried to take it a step further by placing a regular tea bag (minus the string and tag) into the chamber…and it brewed perfectly. So, loose tea in the “my k-cup” filter would also turn out great, I’m sure.
All in all, this is truly a QUICK, versatile, SUPERB coffee machine. Great for myself, who enjoys decaf and tea, and also for my husband who prefers strong as strong can get. He can have his cup, then I can have mine right after. No mess….no cleaning (except for having to clean the my k-cup filter, which is a breeze), and MANY options from a small, simple machine. Well worth the money. I can’t wait to use it when I have guests….that way everyone can have exactly whatever kind of coffee or tea they want and without a wait!
I was trying to decide between the Tassimo system and the Keurig. The draw of the Tassimo was the lattes and cappicinos, but reviews complained that the milk pods were messy and there were less choices of coffees. So I bought the Keurig. Well we all love latte type drinks, so I played around and think I have found I formula that produces a drink very close to one you would buy from a shop. I bought a milk frother (mine is by aerolatte) and some Torani syrup (widely available and inexpensive). I put 1/3 cup of milk in my mug with 1 tbs of syrup and froth it. I then put the mug in the machine and brew the middle size cup (7.5 oz). This fills my oversized coffe mug and makes a great drink. You can sweeten it more if you like. Hubby adds 1 pkt splenda. The Torani syrup is also available sugar free. This process only takes about 1 minute. I can get one mug ready while the 1st one brews. Additional clean up is only to rinse the frother.
Great coffee maker that makes a good cup of coffee and a good cup of tea. If you’re exceptionally picky about your coffee, you might be disappointed since it does not rival a well-made fresh ground cup of joe, but the Keurig allows you to brew a good cup of coffee and tailor it to your specific tastes. My wife likes decaf and I like strong caffeinated coffee, so this offers the ability to make everyone happy. The selection of k-cups for both tea and coffee is much better than other single cup systems. The coffee from Timothy’s is my favorite, especially the ultra dark roasts. The other plus for this unit over the other pod systems is that you can purchase a small filter which allows you to use your OWN custom ground coffee and blends. Good selection of teas from Twinings and Celestial Seasonings. System brews a good cup of tea that is smotth and not bitter. The downside is that we haven’t found a good local source and have had to buy from the internet from both Amazon and Ebay. Ebay allows you to buy individual k-cups so that you can sample different blends and brands before you buy the big boxes. Local stores have just a few brands and don’t reflect the much larger variety available for the Keurig system vice the other pod systems. We’re glad we bought this unit!!

Our experience:
Hubby was introduced this delightful brewer through his work. He sung its praises for months on end. Since my experience with coffee makers was limited to the make a pot of so-so tasting Joe then throw most of it away… I couldn’t relate. However, we started looking into the Keurig home brewers and checking out prices. We researched, viewed displays, bided our time and thus we were amply rewarded.
It was love at first cup. I could finally see what my husband had been raving about!
The Keurig is so easy to use and its beverages so enjoyable to drink. Now there isn’t a drop wasted. I’m thrilled with our Keurig and the coffees and teas that it brews. I start most mornings with a mug of hot coffee and end each evening with a cup of hot, peppermint tea. It’s lovely.
Yes, the Keurig and K-cups can be costly. However, when compared to the amount of money we were wasting by tossing most of our yucky tasting coffee away, its okay. Besides, with the deals you can find on Amazon and other online stores, we found the cost per serving to be as little as $.30 though the average is typically about 50 cents. I figure we’re worth it and for the added convenience, it is definitely worth it.
There are tons of assorted K-cups. We enjoy both flavored and non-flavored coffee as well as herbal teas. Our most favorites:
Flavored coffee:
Timothy’s World Coffee German Chocolate Cake and Timothy’s World Coffee Winter Carnival
Regular coffee:
Green Mountain National Wildlife Blend and Timothy’s World Coffee Spanish Sol
Decaf coffee:
Green Mountain’s French Vanilla, Green Mountain’s Breakfast Blend
Herbal Tea – Timothy’s World Coffee Peppermint Tea, Timothy’s World Coffee Lemon Blueberry Tea
There are variety boxes of coffees and teas available to try and we have bought single cups on EBay as well. Plus you can use the removable My K-cup filter for your own ground coffee, if you prefer. Hot cocoa is snap to make with the Keurig too.
Ease of use is almost laughably effortless. We keep our Keurig plugged in continuously so there is no prep time involved and hot water is always readily available. Clean up is an absolute breeze. Simply toss the K-cup away and every so often wash out the removable drip tray as needed.
It’s a luxury having a fresh cup or second (or even sometimes third) of piping hot, delectable coffee or tea merely a moment away. The Keurig B60 is a blessing for entertaining. Everyone gets the warm beverage they want when they want with barely a moment’s wait. Plus they can have it at their desired brewing strength.
In summary:
I confess I love the darned thing. The Keurig was much more impressive than the Senseo and Tassimo. It is super easy to use and clean. The ultimate clincher is the great tasting beverages. We have had the terrific machine for over 6 months now and it is still going strong (as is our coffee addiction).
In conclusion:
There’s no muss, no fuss, no waste, no wait… the Keurig B60 is simply GREAT!
Added info: Keurig at home brewers are the Elite B40, Ultra B50, Special Edition B60, and Platinum B70. The B100 may be considered for household use. Usually they are all referred to as Keurig B40, B50, B60, B70, and B100.
I bought a Keurig after reading all of the reviews about it. I thought to myself, surely this machine has a lot of hype to live up to.
Not only did it pass the hype test, it did so with flying colors.
Let me just say that if you are doing research on this machine, you will discover that people just rave about it. Review after review say it is worth the investment.
Add this review to that list.
PROS:
It works not just as a coffee maker, there are also tea K-Cups available and it also can be used to heat water in less than 20 seconds. So if you have a tea bag and just want hot water, there is not need to use a kettle. Ever.
You can buy a filter that allows you to place your own GROUND beans in the machine and make your favorite coffee blend.
It is ridiculously easy to use. No paper filters needed. No grinds in the bottom of the cup. No wasting away of drinking coffee in the morning.
KEURIG’S CUSTOMER SERVICE ALONE MAKES THIS A BEST BUY. If you have ANY problems, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Keurig operators are at the ready. I once called then at midnight because I thought I was having an issue setting up the machine. The customer service guy (had a Boston accent) was very nice and answered all my questions. He also registered the machine (it was a “gift”- to myself
), so there was no need to mail in the warranty card.
The blue LED lights are the best kept secret about this machine. It is very modern and fits into any kitchen, both during the day and at night.
CONS:
The K-Cups are hard to find in stores. I have only seen Bed Bath and Beyond sell K Cups in the store. 18 k-cups for $10??? That’s ridiculous. ENTER AMAZON… They sell 50 K-Cups for $19.00. That is a better deal by FAR. You would be well to do to buy a coffee variety pack so you can see which one is the best for you. You don’t want to get stuck with 50 K-cups of a flavor you don’t like.
If you are having a group of people over, it’s definitely easier to make a 12-cup batch of coffee. Some people may not like having to use 12 K-cups (a K-Cup for each guest). But here’s the thing. Every single person will comment on how good their coffee is. You can then show them the Keurig, and it’s a great conversation piece.
The B60 is a good compromise among the Keurig models. You can save your money and not spend $30 for a larger water reservoir. So you get a travel mug size of 11.25(?) oz. in the B70. So what? The 9.etc oz. cup size is plenty big for most travel mugs once you mix in the creamer.
Let’s be frank. It’s expensive. But honestly, the investment is worth it. Trust the reviews about the machine. People are more inclined to write a review if they really love a product or it they really hate a product. Obviously, people love this machine, and for good reason.
It is economical to buy this machine if you hate wasting $2, $3 or $4 at a coffee shop for your coffee in the morning. The per-cup average is about 40 cents, and in the long term, this machine pays itself off.
BOTTOM LINE:
If you’re reading this review, you obviously care about what other people think before you spend $100+ on a freaking coffee maker. Don’t worry. I was in your shoes. But there is a peace of mind that comes along knowing that you made the right choice. Do as much research as you can and get as many opinions as you can. But just remember that thousands of satisfied Keurig customers can’t be wrong.
Good luck.
I’ve owned the Tassimo, the Flavia, the Sensao, and there is no doubt that the Keurig system is Best In Show.
My rating system:
5 = Sublime
4 = Quite nice
3 = Not bad, but…
2 = Below expectations
1 = Criminal!
TASSIMO:
Easy of operation: 4.5 Just drop the disk in and go.
“Hot water only” feature: Not a big ordeal, but have to use the special “cleaning” disk which “spits” the water into the cup, which causes splatter.
Easy cleaning: 4 It’s really not that bad, however, you have to take out the filter (the price you pay for filtered water – so it’s worth it, really
) before cleaning the tank. The filter, itself, should be replaced – not too expensive. The only serious issue I have with this is that its surfaces are multi-level which creates lots of nooks and crannies. This makes cleaning the unit annoying – I have to use a cue-tip…but that’s just me…
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 1 This is where the Tassimo takes a serious nosedive. I say “criminal” because most of its disks come from Gevelia. Now, if you like Gevelia, then this isn’t a problem. I like Gevelia, too, but I also like others, such as Timothy’s, Green Mountain, Gloria Jeans, etc. And this unit accepts only Gevelia, Maxwell House, Gloria Jeans (I think), and maybe one or two others. Nowhere near enough!
Price (per cup) vs. taste: 3 Okay, if you don’t mind your cappuccino, espresso, and lattes to taste a little “off”. What I mean is, I love coffee, tea, etc. but I’m not a prig about it; so, for me, what the cappuccinos, espressos, and lattes lack in quality, they make for in value. This is definitely a “you get what you pay for” scenario. Keep in mind, too, that the “milk” the machine uses is white…is liquid…but, since it doesn’t require refrigeration, I have no idea what it really is. I’m sure it’s fine – some sort of milk derivative – but still, do you really want to consume that regularly?
Buyer remorse factor: 3 Once you realize all of the above mentioned, you may feel a little buyer remorse. But still, it makes a fairly good cup of coffee.
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 1 ‘nuf said.
Travel mug adaptation: 4 This is because most travel mugs won’t fit under the unit unless you take off the catch basin. Not a biggie, though.
Cup size selection: 4 This is okay; however, what it considers small, medium, and large, are not quite right. So you’ll find yourself hitting the button again for a second cycle. But just know that none of the machines I’ve used are any better at this..!
OVERALL: 2 I have to give it a 2 because of what it lacks as well as the beverages overall quality. If you like anything but the limited selection of coffee this product offers, it’s not a bad deal. But if you want to make cappuccinos or lattes that are not of the “Mc” variety, move on.
FLAVIA
Overall use: 2 It’s a pain in the @#$%# to use this machine! The machine uses pouches that have a little plastic cap. You have to fit this plastic cap onto a kind of rail in the machine. But it’s not very intuitive; you have to know that you did it right because there’s no satisfying “click” or anything.
“Hot water only” feature: 1
Easy cleaning: 3 Not too bad, but it seems to me that all of the spots you really want to clean are the most difficult to reach. This is a design issue; to clean the spout, for example, you have to crouch down (or flip the machine) in order to reach the spout, etc.
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 1 This machine works only with Flavia coffee/tea/etc. I have a real problem with that.
Price vs. taste: 1 ‘nuf said.
Buyer remorse factor: I returned mine two weeks after I bought it.
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 1
Travel mug adaptation: 1 The design of this unit is so poor…just forget it!
Cup size selection:
OVERALL: 1 STAY AWAY!
SENSAO
Overall use: 5 Great. Just drop the pod in and you’re good to go.
Easy cleaning: 2 The problem is that the pods are just that coffee filter paper; therefore, they’re a bit of a mess to handle after you’ve made the coffee. If you go for this one, keep paper towels nearby.
“Hot water only” feature: 1
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 5 This is the only brand whose products are available in my local supermarket.
Price vs. taste: 3.5 If you like strong coffee, you won’t like this machine. I love strong coffee; therefore, I don’t like this machine..
Buyer remorse factor: 3
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 2.5
Travel mug adaptation: 4.5 Not too bad, but, like all of the machines, you have to remove the catch basin. The only problem with this particular machine is that it’s a little tricky.
Cup size selection: 2 You have only two options, and both are not very good.
OVERALL: 3.5
KEURIG
Overall use: 5 Just drop-’n-go!
Easy cleaning: 5 The water tank is easy to snap in and out (you do get the satisfying “click”). Even though stuff gets caught up in the corners of the LCD screen and buttons, the design of this machine is so good that it just requires a quick wipe.
“Hot water only” feature: 3 Just lift the bar up and down so it “thinks” there’s a K-cup inside. Then make your cup selection. The only problem is, if you don’t clean it daily, you may taste a little coffee residue if you don’t take out the K-cup mechanism – which isn’t a big deal at all; it just pops out.
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 5 While you can’t get most of the selection at your local store (like you can with the Sensao), you can peruse *dozens* of pages of K-cups right here on Amazon. If you can’t find something you like, I think it’s an issue that goes beyond your taste for coffee…
Price vs. taste: 5
Buyer remorse factor: I didn’t experience any at all.
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 4.5 This is the only machine that I’ve used where I never say, “I think today I’ll treat myself to a Starbucks.”
Travel mug adaptation: 5 The catch basin just slips out. Again, hats off to design because it also stays put due to an innovative little “bump”
Cup size selection: 5 But I will say that this depends on the unit you get. If you get 3-cup selection, it’s great (5 all the way). But if you get a 2-cup selection you’ll be double-shooting. Not a problem, however, because you don’t sacrifice taste.
OVERALL: 5 – This is the one, folks. If you want cappuccino, espresso, or lattes, get machine that makes these beverages in addition to this one for coffee, teas, hot cocoas, etc. That’s how good the Keurig is.
Why Keurig Customer Service is Awesome:
My Keurig broke because I did not descale it enough. I called them the next day, told them how often I scaled it, and they still are sending me a new one free of charge. Really amazing customer service.
Why Keurig Coffee is Great:
I am a very busy person and I am also lazy. I would not go through the process of making coffee normally, but I love to drink it. I also cannot stand waiting in line and paying 4 dollars for a coffee. Now coffee is 30 seconds away, fun to make, and my efficiency has gone up 3 fold.
The Machine:
It is well put together, looks nice, and fits in with my home office. The only problem I had with it was my own fault of not descaling.
40 cents for a coffee, shipped free, no line at Starbucks, I can’t complain. My workmates love it too.
I am very impressed with my recent purchased of the Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet brewing system. It is more that I expected it would be. I would recommend you purchasing this item. You won’t be sorry.
The Keurig B60 is working great and the variety of K-cups is fantastic for a one cup a day coffee drinker like myself. The ability to switch between flavors or from coffee to tea without residual contamination from the previous choice is right out of the Jetson’s! Pretty soon they will figure out a way such that when you drop in the K-cup, out pops a steak and a baked potato!!!
I used to pour a cup of coffee at the office in the morning, but ever since I started working from home a few years ago, I never wanted to bother making that morning cup of coffee until now. Its so easy and even I can do it. So far so good. Coffee is a bit more expensive per cut, and once you get over that, its a pleasure. Still trying different roasts and blends until I can settle on a few regulars to keep on hand.
Bfore I had my Keurig, I always wondered why would a person invest in a single cup coffee machine and pay a good amount of dollars for the individual coffee flavors. Well, now I know why…it is just so darn good, easy, convenient, no mess-no clen up and quick.
I love the fact that this Keurig has so many, many flavors to choose from (compared to the other single cup models on the market). Also, I thing Green Mountain Coffee Roaster is one good company that I enjoy supporting by buying its products. I cannot say one bad thing about my K-Cup. Love it a whole LOT!
I received the Keurig as a gift about 6 months ago and I love it! You need not clean it every time but when you do, it’s easily disassembled and put back together. I purchased a reusable K-Cup for the occasional non-Keurig cup. I haven’t gotten the grind quite right yet but when I figure it out, my Keurig experience will be perfect and complete!
I was VERY surprised when I purchased some Folgers Lively Columbian coffee, at the grocers, between shipments of my favorite, and find it to be QUITE a yummy, “first thing in the morning” cup! I REALLY like having a variety of brands to choose from with every cup! I’ve tried them all, I think, but they aren’t all consistent, except for my favorite, Donut Shop. Even so, the Folgers Lively Columbian is my new favorite morning cup and I’m a bit shocked about that! PLUS, the local grocers now carries Donut Shop and several other K-Cups, as well. With the internet, of course, getting K-Cups wasn’t a problem – but having such a variety at the local grocer’s is fantastic!!
